Your first visit

What to expect on arrival and first consultation apart from a warm welcome

Our Clinic is located just off the main Torquay Road in Newton Abbot, as well as being close to the bus routes - For directions how to find us please give one of our friendly Clinic Assistants (CA’s) a call, they are used to directing patients to the clinic from all over! You can also get directions from your place to the clinic on our map, click here.

For those of you who come by car we have plenty of parking spaces on the premises and two dedicated spaces for disabled access.

Arrival at the Clinic

As soon as you arrive, you will be welcomed at the reception by one of our Clinic Assistants. Once you are comfortable, our CA will ask you to complete our registration and health questionnaire (unless you have already done this online) and will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Complimentary refreshments (coffee, tea, water and biscuits) will be offered, and as a patient of the clinic, person(s) accompanying you, will be able to enjoy these too.

When you come to the clinic for your future appointments with your Chiropractor, you will have access to a wide range of current magazines and daily newspapers and should you bring your children with you we of course have toys and books to help keep them entertained!

Before the consultation you will be shown into one of the changing cubicles, where you will be asked to change into an examination gown (keeping your underwear on), designed specifically with your comfort and modesty in mind.

Your initial consultation

Your Chiropractor will meet you and take you through to the consultation room where a detailed set of case notes are taken about your condition, past and current medical information.

Your examination - putting the pieces together to establish what is causing your pain

Having received your consent to examination, your Chiropractor will examine you using a series of orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic tests to pinpoint the cause of your pain. All procedures and tests will be explained beforehand.

You can be assured that the examination process and diagnostic techniques used at the clinic are extremely thorough and have been developed using the experience and knowledge gained over many years in practice by us and others.

We encourage questions so that you can feel confident you understand exactly what is happening and can be in the best possible position to share responsibility for your recovery and future health.

You will be given an explanation as to what is wrong with you in clear, plain, understandable language. You will be advised as to how many treatments you will need and what the costs are likely to be.

Sometimes an X-ray is needed before a diagnosis can be formed. If you have an existing X-ray we will request a copy and if not, we can arrange for an X-ray to be taken on our premises, normally the same day.

One of three courses of action will then be recommended:-

Treatment will normally start on your second visit, either that same day if there is time or on the following day.  There will also be further discussions about your pain, which will include advice to help minimise its severity and accelerate your recovery.  This can include self-help exercises, do's and don'ts, techniques for reduction of inflammation and pain, together with ergonomic and/or postural advice.  This will be further reinforced at each subsequent treatment including, if you work, appropriate advice regarding your job e.g. lifting, driving, workstation set-up etc.  You will also have your treatment schedule discussed with you and subsequent appointment intervals will be recommended.

Referral for more information

For a small percentage of patients we need to have more information to pinpoint the diagnosis before the treatment can start.  This can be an MRI scan or blood tests or other investigation for which we normally would refer you back to your GP.

Onward referral

Chiropractors are primary health practitioners. Our extensive training means we are able to differentiate between those conditions that are suitable for Chiropractic treatment and those that require medical intervention.  If you are one of the small percentage of patients whose condition is not suitable for Chiropractic treatment, you will receive speedy diagnosis and appropriate referral back to your GP.

The clinic accepts most major debit/credit cards, cash or cheque.

We ask that you pay our fees on each visit.

Chiropractic treatment is covered by most private health insurance companies and if you intend to claim please call your insurance company to find out their individual procedures. We ask that you claim our fees back from them directly.

Note: Some insurance companies require referral from your GP in order to validate your claim

Please note that if you fail to arrive for any of your appointments or if you give us less than 24 hours notice of cancellation, we reserve the right to make a charge. Please telephone us if you cannot make an appointment so we can offer it to someone else. Thank you.
